"The character I think really has an appeal to animal lovers and dog lovers in particular, they tend to love hearing what a dog may be thinking if it had a human voice," he said. For the show's second year, Gann said he tries to find "dogisms" or canine behavior to articulate in a funny, human form.

"We see a few different sides of Wilfred," he said of season two. "We see more of what Wilfred wants to do this year. There may be some dancing."

"Wilfred's" special season preview episode aired Thursday and season two officially kicks off on FX on June 28 at 10 p.m.
